Following an aftercare regime is essential to ensure you heal as smoothly as possible, so that you can show off you beautiful lips with confidence.

What to expect?

You will have had local anaesthetic applied and so you may feel numbness or tingling in the lip area. Because fillers are inserted with needles you will have some swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness in the area. These should all subside over the next 48-72 hours. Mild swelling and bruising may continue for up to 2 weeks.

How to prevent side effects:?

Applying ice will help ease swelling, bruising and itching. Gently apply ice to your lips during the first 48 hours following the procedure. You can do this several times during the day. Do not apply ice directly on to your lips, use an ice-cube or ice pack wrapped in a thin clean cloth

To ensure the most positive outcome after your lip filling injections, there are several things you should avoid. 

• Smoking or vaping
• Scratching around the injection sites
• Exercising strenuously (for 1-2 days)
• Wearing lipstick or lip balm (for at least 24 hours)
• Eating hard foods
• Avoid drinking through straws in the immediate 24-48 hours (the pressure and motion required to use a straw may distort the filler placement).
• Eating or drinking hot food/drinks.
• Avoid alcohol for at least 24-48 hours 
• Avoid kissing/ massaging /touching your lips
• Avoid hot environments.

When to contact us?

Rarely side effects can occur that need our support to consider dissolving the dermal filler. 

The following situations require you to contact us;

1. Increasing pain near the injection site that is getting worse and is associated with the skin in that are looking more pale. This may indicate a blocked blood vessel and requires us to dissolve the filler  immediately. If we were unreachable then attendance at accident and emergency is advised.

2. Filler becomes hard and lumpy with redness. This can indicate an infection. If we were unreachable  then attendance at your local GP is advised

3. Swelling or lumpiness which is not resolving with gentle massage.
