Facial fillers involve injecting a hyaluronic-acid based substance into the skin to correct deeper lines such as the nasolabial folds or to enhance natural features such as cheeks, lips or chin. The hyaluronic acid attracts water and therefore plumps the area in which it is injected. This procedure requires a topical local anaesthetic and some mild discomfort may occur.
This treatment has instant results which last for 6-12 months.
Areas that can be treated with filler;
Patch testing is not necessary: There is no skin test required as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers do not contain any animal-derived ingredients. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar your body produces daily.
Procedure time; 30-60 minutes
Possible side effects; redness and slight swelling at injection site, very rarely bruising which can usually be covered up with makeup. Fillers to naso-labial folds have a very minimal risk of skin necrosis due to filler being injected into a blood vessel - your treatment is administered by doctors using a procedure technique that minimises this risk as much as possible.
Anaesthetic requirement: topical anaesthetic cream (our preferred product in LMX4)
Recovery time: immediate
What to expect?
You may have had local anaesthetic applied and so you may feel numbness or tingling in the treated area. Because fillers are inserted with needles you may have some swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness in the area. These should all subside over the next 48-72 hours. Mild swelling and bruising may continue for up to 2 weeks.
How to prevent side effects?
Avoid strenuous exercise, sun beds, hot showers, saunas, heat and UV light for 48hrs after the procedure. Avoid direct pressure to the treated areas in the first 24hrs and do not have facial massage treatments or skin resurfacing until the treated area has healed. Try to avoid touching the area for the first 12 hours to minimise the risk of infection and do not re-apply makeup until the day after the treatment. Avoid alcohol for at least 24-48 hours.
Late complications?
Late complications are defined as those appearing after about 2-6 weeks They comprise of late allergic reactions, chronic inflammation and infection, granulomas (hard lumps), filler migration, loss of function and scarring.
