Professional chemical peels are controlled skin-resurfacing treatments designed to improve skin texture, clarity, tone and radiance.
At ReNu Medical Aesthetics, we use professional AlumierMD peel treatments, selected according to your skin, your concerns and the level of resurfacing appropriate for you.
Rather than choosing a peel from a menu, Dr Jackie will assess your skin and recommend the most suitable treatment — from a gentle refresh through to more targeted corrective resurfacing.

A chemical peel uses carefully selected exfoliating ingredients to remove damaged or redundant surface skin cells and encourage renewal.
The depth and intensity of treatment can be adjusted according to the formulation used, your skin condition and what you are hoping to improve.
Professional peels may help improve:
The aim isn't simply to make your skin peel. Visible peeling is not a measure of whether a treatment has worked.
AlumierMD is a medical-grade skincare brand used within professional skin treatment programmes. Its professional peel system allows treatment to be tailored according to skin type, sensitivity and individual concerns, while complementary professional skincare can be incorporated where appropriate. At ReNu, the peel itself is only one part of the treatment.
Dr Jackie will consider your current skincare, skin barrier, pigmentation risk, sensitivity and treatment goals before deciding what level of exfoliation is appropriate.
You don't need to choose. Different formulations and treatment strengths are appropriate for different skin concerns. Following assessment, Dr Jackie will select the professional peel and treatment protocol most appropriate for your skin.
Treatment can therefore range from a gentle brightening and refreshing peel through to more targeted treatment for concerns such as congestion, pigmentation, uneven texture or visible ageing.
Your treatment can also be adjusted over time as your skin changes.
Consultation & Skin Assessment
Your skin, current skincare and treatment goals will be assessed. Certain products or active ingredients may need to be stopped temporarily before treatment.
Preparation
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared before the selected peel is applied.
Treatment
The peel is carefully applied and monitored throughout. You may experience warmth, tingling or mild stinging depending on the formulation and treatment intensity.
Finishing Skincare
Appropriate professional products and sun protection are applied following treatment.
Aftercare
You will receive guidance on caring for your skin while it recovers, including which skincare products to use and when to restart active ingredients.
Your recovery will depend upon the peel selected and the intensity of treatment.
After a lighter peel, skin may simply appear brighter and fresher with relatively little visible downtime.
With more intensive resurfacing you may experience:
Do not pick or manually exfoliate peeling skin. Your skin will be more vulnerable to UV exposure following resurfacing, making appropriate daily SPF particularly important.
Dr Jackie will explain the expected recovery from your particular treatment before you proceed.
Home skincare containing acids can be extremely useful for maintaining skin health, but professional chemical peels allow a more controlled and targeted level of resurfacing.
The two aren't necessarily alternatives. For many people, the best results come from combining occasional professional treatment with an appropriate home skincare programme. Where useful, Dr Jackie can recommend an AlumierMD home skincare routine to complement your professional treatments.
Both treatments exfoliate the skin, but they work differently.
Diamond microdermabrasion provides controlled physical exfoliation of the skin surface using a diamond-tipped handpiece.
Professional chemical peels use carefully selected acids or other exfoliating ingredients to produce a controlled chemical exfoliation. Different formulations allow treatment to be tailored to particular skin concerns.
Neither is inherently better. The appropriate choice depends on your skin, what you are trying to improve and how much recovery you are comfortable with.
Professional peels can form part of a wider skin rejuvenation plan.
Depending on your skin and treatment goals, Dr Jackie may recommend combining or sequencing professional resurfacing with treatments such as:
Not every treatment should be performed at the same time. Your programme will be planned to allow appropriate skin recovery and protect the skin barrier.
• Doctor-led assessment
• AlumierMD professional skincare
• Personalised peel selection
• Skin-barrier focused care
At ReNu, a chemical peel isn't simply selected according to how strongly you want your skin to peel. Your treatment is chosen according to your skin condition, sensitivity, pigmentation risk, current skincare and treatment goals, with the aim of achieving progressive improvement while maintaining healthy skin.
Not sure whether a professional peel is right for your skin?
Book a consultation with Dr Jackie to discuss your skin concerns and the most appropriate treatment approach.
Not necessarily. The amount of visible flaking varies according to the peel used, treatment intensity and your individual skin. Visible peeling isn't required for a treatment to be effective.
You may experience warmth, tingling or stinging while the peel is on the skin.
The sensation depends upon the formulation and treatment intensity and will be monitored throughout your treatment.
This depends on the treatment selected. Some lighter peels have very little visible downtime, while more intensive treatments may cause redness, dryness and flaking over several days. Dr Jackie will explain what to expect before treatment.
A single peel can provide a useful skin refresh, but concerns such as pigmentation, congestion or uneven texture may benefit from a planned course of treatments.
Your response will be reviewed rather than automatically prescribing a fixed number of peels.
Professional peels can be useful for some forms of superficial pigmentation and uneven skin tone, but pigmentation has many different causes. Assessment is important because inappropriate treatment can sometimes worsen pigmentation, particularly in skin prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Potentially, but you may need to stop certain active skincare products before and after your treatment. Tell Dr Jackie exactly what you are using — including prescription creams — so that appropriate advice can be given.
Yes, where appropriate. LED phototherapy may be incorporated into a skin treatment programme, including following selected professional peel treatments. It isn't necessary for everybody, and Dr Jackie can advise whether it adds anything useful to your particular treatment.
Chemical peels are generally well tolerated when appropriately selected and performed, but they are not risk-free. Possible effects include redness, irritation, dryness, peeling and temporary sensitivity. Less commonly, prolonged inflammation, changes in pigmentation, infection or scarring can occur. Your skin type, medical history, current skincare and pigmentation risk will be assessed before treatment.
